1. Scope and Application
These General Terms and Conditions govern the carriage of letters, parcels, satchels, freight, and related digital and retail services by the Australian Postal Corporation ("Australia Post"). By lodging an item, purchasing a postage label, or using our digital tracking services, you agree to be bound by these terms.
2. Packaging and Lodgement Standards
The sender is responsible for ensuring all items are safely packaged to withstand normal postal handling and transit. Items must:
- Bear clear, complete, and legible recipient delivery addresses including Australian state and postcode.
- Not exceed the maximum weight limit of 22kg for standard network parcels (or agreed contract limits).
- Include customs declaration CN22/CN23 forms when sent internationally.
3. Prohibited and Dangerous Goods
You must not lodge dangerous, combustible, explosive, toxic, radioactive, or illegal substances for carriage. Certain lithium batteries and perfumes must comply with specific IATA and Australia Post Dangerous Goods policies. Any prohibited items may be seized, destroyed, or handed to law enforcement authorities without compensation.
4. Delivery and Safe Drop
Australia Post will make reasonable efforts to deliver items to the specified address. If a signature is not required and the delivery person deems there is a safe, sheltered place out of public view ("Safe Drop"), the item may be left. Otherwise, a notification card will be left directing collection from the nearest Post Office.
5. Extra Cover and Compensation
Standard delivery services carry statutory guarantees under Australian Consumer Law. Extra Cover (insurance) may be purchased up to a maximum value of $5,000 for loss or damage during transit, subject to proof of value and terms specified in the Post Guide.
6. Dispute Resolution
If you have an unresolved complaint regarding delivery or billing, you may lodge a formal enquiry through our Help & Support Centre or escalate the matter to the Postal Industry Ombudsman (PIO).
