Following extensive community consultation throughout 2023 and early 2024, the Australian Government’s reforms to the Australian Postal Corporation (Performance Standards) Regulations 2019 came into effect in April 2024. These changes included:
These reforms recognised that Australians are sending fewer letters and more parcels, and gave Australia Post more flexibility to keep providing a reliable national postal service.

Some services will be delivered differently or in different places, depending on local customer needs and community use. Australia Post will work with customers and communities to make sure they can still access the essential services they rely on. For most customers, changes will mean more choice, easier access and greater convenience.
In 2024 letter regulations changed so that letters are now delivered every second business day. This has helped us respond to the ongoing decline in letter volumes alongside the growth in parcels. You’ll continue to receive daily parcel deliveries, along with Priority and Express letter services.

Australia Post is offering new and more ways to send and collect parcels, including delivery to Parcel Lockers and Post Parcels locations where customers want them. We’re also working hard to enable faster deliveries, including on weekends and same-day.
Yes. As part of our commitment to provide faster delivery and more convenient parcel collection, we are expanding the reach of our Parcel Locker network. If you’re unable to access your local Post Office within business hours, or be home at the time of delivery, our free 24/7 Parcel Lockers may be a convenient alternative.
